The Green Council
became a member of the Global Eco-labelling
Network(GEN) in June 2001. The Global
Ecolabelling Network (GEN), founded
in 1994, is a non-profit association
of third-party, environmental performance
labelling organizations with aims
to improve, promote, and develop the
"ecolabelling" of products
and services. More specifically, it
improves and promotes the credibility
of ecolabelling programs worldwide,
and the availability of information
regarding ecolabelling standards from
around the world. It fosters co-operation,
information exchange and harmonization
among its members, associates, and
other ecolabelling programs with regard
to ecolabelling. In addition, GEN
represents the interests of eco-labelling
in various international forums, and
provides information and technical
assistance to developing programs.
