In 2015, the United Nations established 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to pursue sustainable life on earth for everyone now and in the future. Locally, the Hong Kong Government published the Climate Action Plan 2030+ in 2017, which emphasises few key areas, including energy consumption reduction and better management of waste, as highly critical to significantly reduce overall carbon emission levels by 2030.
Since Green Council’ s establishment in 2000, our organisation has incorporated multiple standards, goals, and targets of major international organisations including the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the SDG exercise, as well as those contained in the Climate Action Plan 2030+, into our programmes and related initiatives. Even so, significant and sustained progress cannot be achieved without corporates’ involvement, as their cumulative efforts play a vital role in advancing sustainability actions.
Starting from 1st January 2020, Green Council will officially launch the Green Council Corporate Membership Programme (CMP) to work closely with corporates to fulfill its business and sustainability objectives. The strategic goal of CMP is to facilitate the corporate sector to transform operations and value chains in implementing sustainability, contribute to the transformation of Hong Kong into a leading and model sustainable city.
